as usual windybob is right !
while fitting the pinion to the big gear I discovered the bearing must be even with the housing. Some grinding & filing required.
ANOTHER lesson learned.

both bushings are held in place with a set screw,
make replacement easier next time, another 75 years when my son has to do some repair . :lol:

I had my favorite machinist install brass bushings to repair the worn holes for the tail pin.
He also made a new tail pin.

I got caught once by my wife using the dishwasher to clean hub caps. Worked well but had repercussions

Windy, price at the local scraper her in New Braunfels is $20 per ton, that's 1 cent per pound.
