Re: Look What I Broke Today!

Michael, I tell my help that I will say one thing wrong each day and it is your job to figure out what it is. If you build up enough tail pin holes, you can buy on ebay 5# Ni99 for around $75, makes them $1/rod. We use Ni99 on tail pin holes as it machines easier with a die grinder burr. Where you c...

Re: Hub oil leakage?

Welcome, Jerry The groove mimics the style of case casting on the left. Once the dam around the oil collector fills, oil would have a natural tendency to flow toward the snout ring. If you dont build up the snout ring on this style of case casting, they will leak the worst as you have a down sloping...

Re: Different Windmill Raising/ Tear Down Techniques

In 20 years, I have used all methods from gin to hinge to loader tractor stinger to pump truck to crane. My preference is pump truck or crane. Hinging has limitations. I bought a D602 on a 40' trussed tripod tower last week that a guy tried to hinge down and dropped. There is a lot of pressure when ...

Re: Hub oil leakage?

You still have a visible lip in the inside of the hub so it is likely OK. The inside of the hub wears evenly because the hub turns. The snout bearing wears on the lower side so the snout ring on the case wears only on the top. Wear on the snout ring is normally where you have to build up. The collar...

Re: Sail blade design survey

The new forum has the same glitch as the old one. I was doing a reply when Smax posted and it bumped my post. I hadn't exited so 2 hits on the back button and I could then post what I had typed without losing it.

Re: Sail blade design survey

Smax specifically asked on sail blade design which would be hard to determine individually. Many factors go in to a windmill's total efficiency. For example, the Dempster 15 blade 12A produced equal amounts of water as the 18 blade Aermotor. This study was done by a university but cant remember whic...

Re: Anodized yellow mills

Ivan reported that during WWII it was hard to get metal for windmills so if the got material and built the mill they painted them yellow

Peter
Nice work as usual! What new projects are hidden under those drop cloths?
maybe if I find a tower for it I would put it up in the air. I already have nine up in the air
Am sure a tower could be arranged for one of those tail vanes hanging on the wall in the shop!
