Re: bent sails on my aeromotor

I have a slip-roll I use on all sails that are not crimped. You need a reference curvature, though, unless you do all of them. Measure tip to tip. I also have a favorite log of just the right diameter that I clamp to a sail and hammer with a rubber mallet I split the log down the middle to lighten i...

Add pinterest to the list of on-line info sources. There are a few 'Weight Bibles' for sale on Amazon, etc.

Re: Windmill Hunting Blind

I found out that deer at our place look up. So camping on the platform is not such a great deal. Instead, I put siding on the tower with an opening at the base. I'm considering put in a fire pit and a refrigerator for snacks.

Re: Star 24 Wheel Arm and Arm Brace Lengths

Yep. And Windmilling IS rocket science. And I see people with very unique and special talents who can handle these restoration and maintenance jobs. My experience with Erector Sets as a kid started me off down this highway.. Many thanks to you Ken. Off to the steel supply company in Brighton tomorrow.

Star 24 Wheel Arm and Arm Brace Lengths

Working on resurrecting an 8' Star 24 mill. I have the wheel but no wheel arms or wheel arm braces (just angle iron i reccon). I have a copy of the parts diagram from here and thought I could estimate the wheel arm dimensions from it. So, I wrote a little computer program in Matlab to digitize the d...

Re: Rivets for Sails

I use stainless steel industrial pop rivets that I get from a local auto parts store. Available in several lengths. You need a special version of the standard Harbor Fright installation tool to get them seated and compressed. It takes BOTH arms and a grunt to pull the pin heads through. They fit nic...

Re: Missing sail

I would strap the wheel to the tower instead of the lift because I would want to cruise around to access the section fasteners. You could strap the section to be removed to the lift as long as you can slowly pull away when it's free. This section at the top, of course. Or were you thinking of doing ...

Re: Missing sail

Remember than when you open the outer band, you'll be having to pull it back together when the sail is replaced. If the wheel is sprung, you will have your hands full. Can your lift carry the weight of a B702 ? Mine carry's an A702 without any strain when i have the jib arm on instead of the basket/...
