Getting ready for winter

Post by Windcatcher530 Dan »

It's that time of year mornings are cool it won't be long till first frost. Time to drain the water basin and unhook the pump rod on my Heller aller.

That is a nice Baker. Hope to find one one day. I'd like to see a pic or two of your basin setup. I'd like to add a similar setup under one of my mills.

Paul the water basin is a 80 gallon livestock tub.its a #3 Meyers pitcher pump with a inch and a half pipe and foot valve hooked to it. Being the pump only has about a 5inch stroke and the windmill has around 7inch i put a compression spring on the sucker rod to absorb the extra 2 inches.all it does is circulate the water to keep it fresh. I was originally going to put a shallow well under the basin and have the pipe run through the basin with a sealed threaded collar to the bottom of the well but it's all bedrock here.

Thanks for the pics! I like the setup. Was thinking of doing the same thing with a couple of pitcher pumps I have.

If you do Paul don't forget to take the duckbill out. The cast piece hooked to the bottom gasket that let's the water in and stops it from draining out of the pitcher pump

I haven't found one over here yet. If you come across one, holler at me.
