Would it be sacrilegious to consider putting a clockwise fan on a F & W Star24 ? I have an 'extra' complete fan and spars from an unknown make of old windmill and a recently discovered barn find Star 24 that is missing the fan and spars. My extra parts (spars) line up perfectly with the hub. F & W's rotate CCW with a headwind. This fan would make it go CW. I see no reason to think that the motor cares about the rotation direction other than maybe the brake band. I'll put it up away from my other Star 24, my Star 26 and 2 Star 37's so they won't see each other and maybe get upset.
Any thoughts or feelings ?
CW Fan on a Star 26 OK ?

First, what's a spar? LOL Second, it's your mill. Third, maybe reverse the slant of the sails. I've done that before. A few new holes in the clips is easy.
Call Dan Benjamin for parts. P M me for the phone number.

Spar = Wheel Arm. 5 on my 24, 26 and 37's. 6 on my Star 12.

I hate to bust your bubble as "they" say,but if you turn the shaft backwards it messes up the oiling system and the shaft at the front bearing will fail first for lack of oil.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

True. They are made to rotate in a set direction to oil properly. Plus, if they turn backwards, they shove all the water back down the well. lol

That's right ! I can turn the blades around. Plus I'd have to repaint the tail to Walling & Flint.
