Yes. The field guide says implement green, but I like the darker green. Just my preference.

I us a rust paint that is called Shutter Green, between John Deere Green and Hunter Green.
Made by Armor Coat in the USA. Seems to hold up very well.

And just as a note, I am spraying primer, and brushing the paint on this project. I have never brush painted a windmill. It seems you get a better coat of paint vs. spraying.

Yes Ken painting with a brush is better i believe. I always prime first with Red Oxide primer and then paint with a oil based paint with two coats with a fine hair brush. Just my opinion.

My painting process is very similar to yours , except I use foam brushes , no clean - up when finished .

Yeah I like foam brushes, its just that sometime the foam brushes don't like rough castings.

I agree with Wayne. These castings are rough. I don't think a foam brush would cover it. And I too use red primer spray.

I worked on the mill today. Not much but thought I would post it. I pressed the bushings in the walking beam and the pump rod casting. The pump rod casting was not as worn as the walking beam. So I was able to get by with a 1 1/8 bushing on it. I ordered 1 1/4 bushings, so I turned 1 of them down for the pump rod casting. See pic.
