You still need a storm stay if that's what you're wondering.

Great project Mark! Windy, you still amaze me of all the windmill knowledge you have stored in that head of ours. LOL.

One day the tank will run empty, and the fill tube will be very restricted. Thanks.

I’m still struggling with getting this tower correct. Locating and attaching the stormstay is figured out but I’m now concerned that my tower is too wide at the location where the wheel tip will be. At that point, my tower is 12.25” square. So very close to 17-3/8” radius. With the mill laying on the ground but with wheel section attached, is seems the tip of the wheel will be around 8.5” from center line of the neck pipe. It this is correct,,,I believe it will touch the tower legs when at just the right spot on the turntable.

Questions, what am I doing wrong or what am I missing? I have a few other “old WC motors and towers” and they all seem to measure the same, or very close to the same, 12.25” at tip of wheel location. They also have wear marks on the tower angles where the blades have hit. But I figured it was because of excessive wear on the bearings.

Thoughts? Please.

Yeah Monitor model W windmills don't have a very long neck and main shaft. The wheel section doesn't hang far from the head. The only answer I see is to move the storm stay down that would bring the legs in some. Maybe someone who really knows will have an opinion.

Mark is that the model where the wheel tilts slightly back away from the tower ? If so you might be OKAY !!!
