Post by tomar46@aol.com »

What would be the best place or places to attach to a Dempster no. 12 6' engine with fan and all to pull from tower with a crane? Thanks, Tom

We have pulled them before using the crosshead tie IF, IF the setscrews are tight, and they are threaded into the case properly. However, we usually pull the tail open and strap it to the outer band of the wheel, (by an arm) and go around under the pulleys in the back, and under the snout in the front. Put visegrips on the brake hub, one on each side of the lower brake arm pin, and then tie the upper part of the wheel to the winch line. That way, it's mostly balanced, and the wheel won't spin. Cover the well opening with a rag, as the turntable balls will fall out. Or, put a couple of bunji cords over each side of the turntable to hold it together when removing the head.
Call Dan Benjamin for parts. P M me for the phone number.
