Strange Part

Have a part you can't identify? Did your parts get mixed up in the shop? Curious if that chunk of metal is a part you should keep? Not sure what kind of windmill or tower you have? Post photos of the mystery object here for the community to help identify.

I visit on a Facebook page called "Windmill Restoration". A person was trying to ID a tower that has this part on it. That caught my eye because I used to have that same part laying around my shop and I never could identify it and got shrugs from everyone else I asked. The person on Facebook thought it might have been Mast-Foos. What say ye?

I also have that same type of casting that I took off a tower that's laying in my parts pile. It's a mystery for me as well, Michael. :-)

Looks like it would be a handy tie off for rope block and tackle when pulling well pipe.... but have no clue

In looking close, it is not symmetrical and it is two piece so that it can be bolted on anywhere. A snub block for a rope is not far fetched. If there is no evidence of a pull out (brake) handle having been in the tower anywhere else, that is a possibility too.

Lastly, could be a directional arrow to know where the well is...

Years ago I bought on off of Marvin Stinson at one of the trade fairs.
He told me it was for a rope pull out.
You would tie the rope around it.
That is my story and I am sticking to it.

Terry, the guy who posted this originally, had asked me to ask someone who was familiar with Shattuck's Imperial tower and I was going to send you these anyway but I guess Grezmonki and FB beat me too it, LOL He has found several if I understood him right. Pretty neat, looks kind of like some of my iron fence toppers laid on their sides.

I’m not as well versed in tower stuff as I am the windmills but I’ve had several towers with that casting on them. I believe it was made by Elgin if memory serve me right. I’ll look in my books once and see if I can confirm that. I had confirmed it’s make some years ago but am not 100% on the maker with out checking again.

Hi guys, this is definitely found on Imperial Towers and is the anchor for a ring connected to a chain attached to one end of a pullout lever higher in the tower. Some local mills here in New Zealand qreuired the ring to be over the anchor post to operate. Hope this helps.
